Baby news!

Yes, the moment has finally arrived: our baby sea turtles have been born! The nest we adopted hatched on August 6 on Klein Bonaire. No fewer than 84 Loggerhead sea turtles, the largest species found on Bonaire, emerged from the nest.

During a nest monitoring patrol by Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire, they found a beautiful nest depression of our nest. This is a clear sign that the nest has hatched. Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire always conducts research on the nest after hatching. This revealed that no fewer than 84 sea turtles had safely emerged from the nest. This is a high success rate for a Loggerhead sea turtle nest.

Hatching season

The sea turtle hatching season on Bonaire is currently in full swing. So far, 2,413 newborn sea turtles have safely reached the sea. A total of 83 nests have been confirmed on Bonaire and Klein Bonaire this season. Many of these are likely to hatch in the coming weeks, with even more young sea turtles safely reaching the sea.

Would you like to learn more about sea turtles and how to protect them? Visit the Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire Visitor Center. Their new office and visitor center are located at Kaya Aruba 4E in the center of Kralendijk. Here you will also find the Wall of Fame, featuring all the people and companies, such as RE/MAX Paradise Homes Bonaire, who have adopted a nest. Of course, it is also possible for companies or individuals to adopt a nest, just like we did. You can find more information here.

Nest monitoring patrol

Did you know that you can also join the volunteers of Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire during a nest monitoring patrol on Klein Bonaire? Several times a week, they take a boat to the small island off the coast of Bonaire. There, they check the beach looking for traces of sea turtles. If you're lucky, you might even see a hatched nest with newborn sea turtles during this patrol! More information about joining the patrol can be found here.
