Friday, September 6, will mark Dia di Boneiru on Bonaire. This day, also called Bonaire Day or Flag Day, is dedicated this year to 'A clean Bonaire. Our duty, our pride'. This holiday celebrates the discovery of Bonaire in 1499. Besides the official part, there will also be all kinds of cultural and musical activities organized in the center of Kralendijk.
Unlike previous years, Dia di Boneiru will be celebrated more exuberantly this year. On the evening prior to the holiday there will already be festivities. Thursday, September 5, there will be a shopping evening in the center of Kralendijk. The stores will stay open longer this evening. In addition, there are various performances on the stage in the center. Local bands and DJs will provide music between 18:00 and 00:00. The evening will conclude with a fireworks show.
Friday, September 6, Dia di Boneiru begins at 7:30 a.m. with various speeches and a flag ceremony. Among others, the gezaghebber of Bonaire and a deputy will give a speech. A number of individuals, who have rendered special services to the community, will also be recognized as honorary citizens. Around noon, the official part will be concluded. Then the cultural activities will start. Throughout the afternoon and evening there will be performances by bands and dance groups. The evening will last until 2:30.
During both days, there will be several stands with food and drinks on and around the festival grounds. Here you can enjoy local food and cold drinks. There will also be stands selling local art.
Everyone is welcome
All events are open to everyone free of charge. The activities will take place on and around the Wilhelminaplein and on the parking lot of the Bestuurscollege in the center of Kralendijk. Please note that Wilhelminaplein and some surrounding streets will be closed during the event. Dia di Boneiru is an official holiday, so that means most stores, businesses and government buildings will be closed.
RE/MAX Paradise Homes Bonaire wishes everyone a wonderful Dia di Boneiru.
