Ask Bob: I’m interested in buying property on Bonaire. Can you tell me what the process is and how to get started?

Buying or selling a home involves a lot of things, it also raises questions. In this column ‘Ask Bob’, real estate expert/broker Bob Bartikoski of RE/MAX Paradise Homes Bonaire answers a real estate question from a reader. This time:

Question: I’m interested in buying property on Bonaire, but I’m just getting started. Can you tell me what the process is and how to get started?

The first step toward buying a property on Bonaire is to determine your budget for purchasing a property. Is your budget $300,000 or ?

The second step is to determine if you need to get a mortgage from a bank in order to buy. Each bank is a little different about the guidelines they use to determine if they will give you a mortgage and how much they are willing to loan you. It is a good idea to meet with the bank of your choice to get an accurate estimate of the amount you can borrow and then combined with how much money you have for a downpayment you know how much you can spend to purchase a property.

Once you have determined how much you can spend, then it’s time to meet with a real estate broker and look at homes or investment properties. Once you find a property that you want to buy, and can afford to buy, then it’s time to make an offer. In my next column we’ll discuss the buying process.
